Environmental Policy
Mountain Biking is a sport which very much put us in touch with the natural world, so we have designed Singletrack Safari to make the minimum impact possible upon it.
We operate from our home premises, and run a paperless office system wherever possible. We reuse or recycle any materials which we possibly can – from ink cartridges to paper shreddings we ensure that we waste as little as possible.
Our biggest single area of environmental impact is our van emissions, but part of our intention is to encourage group travel – particularly within the UK – by providing central collection points for our clients. This reduces the number of vehicle trips which those riders would otherwise undertake in multiple, smaller vehicles in order to reach the same destinations.
We never undertake unnecessary journeys – we strive to reduce our vehicle use wherever possible – for example we only carry out one transfer from our pick-up/ drop-off point per week, whereas other companies will make regular shuttle runs with many times greater environmental impact.
As a young company it is currently difficult for us to calculate our precise vehicle usage and environmental cost for the purposes of carbon offsetting, however we hope to introduce this facility for our clients in the future.
We encourage clients to carbon offset their air travel at the time of booking – and we would also recommend sites such as ETA Services for annual carbon offset payments on an individual-specific basis. There has been much debate of late regarding the worth and ethical value of carbon offsetting – however at this time we believe that it is preferable to take some action, no matter how slight it’s impact, than no action at all.
We always guide responsibly, and will never take clients into naturally sensitive areas which are protected. We thoroughly encourage clients to ride in a manner which causes the minimum possible impact on the trails – for example by only riding on defined trails rather than open ground, and by minimising the unnecessary locking of brakes.
