North Wales - Snowdonia - Beyond Coed Y Brenin

Trip Dates: January & February

We always get very excited about the prospect of hitting the trails in North Wales, and during the course of this fantastic week we believe that you will have a huge grin plastered across your face at the end of every day! There are several reasons why we know you are going to enjoy this trip so much – primarily because the trails – both natural and built - are of an amazingly high quality.

The mountains are big, the scenery is some of the most rugged and remote in the UK and the singletrack descents tend to be long and involving.

Our collection point for this trip is very central and easy to reach – Birmingham International Airport Station. If there's any other riders to wait for it is a very quick trip into the city – which has had a complete makeover in recent years and is now full of fantastic shops and places to eat and drink. We then have a scenic drive across to our base location for the week; the picturesque town of Dolgellau in Snowdonia. Your accommodation is in traditional Welsh holiday cottages with a full range of facilities to allow you the choice to either self-cater, or go out to eat at any of the town's choice of tasty restaurants. Dolgellau also has a selection of bars and pubs, takeaways and general shops and supermarkets.

A Little More Detail

High above here lies the legendary Pont Scethin rideThe town is ideally placed to get at all of the regions finest trails – and we will really see a variety of singletrack and scenery during your stay. This week offers everything from what we feel are some of the greatest natural rides in Britain through to some amazing trail centre visits, and we will also throw what we reckon is our very best "Escape the Centre" ride into the mix too.... You will ride for at least 5 days and be guided at nearly all times by our expert staff, and, we'll always be on hand to help you identify the best routes and sections to get the most from your riding.

For our first day we'll stay local and make use of the forests around the UK's first – and some would argue best – trail centre at Coed Y Brenin. We don't think any other centre-based route in the country can rival it for a feeling of wilderness riding – you really do feel like you are in the middle of nowhere, or even another time altogether! Rather than simply leaving you to your own devices we'll come along and show you how to string together all of the best sections to make sure you get the very best from your time here.

In complete contrast we will also take you on our version of one of the most famous natural rides in the country – Pont Scethin. This infamous and sometimes unforgiving route explores wild and desolate mountain terrain. Starting from the coast there is some tough and technical climbing to get us up into the mountains where, as you crest the summit the views across to the second highest mountain in Wales, Cadair Idris, appear dramatically before you. There are some big descents on this ride, at times fast, flowing and open – at others rocky and technical – and the route culminates in a fabulous woodland singletrack finale.

What To Expect

Southern Snowdonia has amazing riding and breathtaking sceneryWe'll head north and ride amongst the foothills of Snowdon too, at times taking in a couple of different routes in the same day if you are up for the challenge! There are also a surprising number of man-made routes which you may never have heard of, let alone ridden up here – and we'll throw a few of these into the mix to spice things up a little too. One of the highlights of the week is our "Escape the Centre" ride – which takes in what we feel is the best and most under-visited trail centre in Wales - at Machynlleth, and adds 3 amazing natural extra singletrack descents to its already brilliant route. We think you'll love these extra sections – they lie so close to the trail, but without someone to show you them you'd never even know they were there.

As with our South Wales trip (it's in the middle between them), there's also the option* to undertake our "Secret Raid Mission" which means an early start to strike into the interior of Wales to experience one of the most amazing sections of singletrack in the UK. Due to it's extremely remote location, this incredible trail rarely sees visitors – but it is something very special indeed....super technical climbing challenges reward you with an enormous descent into a deep valley and through a ravine on sinuous and often challenging singletrack....
